I tried my first ice bath tonight. That was about 15 minutes ago and my legs are still tingling. My legs definitely feel much better though. They were fairly sore from the jumping lunges yesterday.
To prepare I filled the bath with cold water. Once full I dumped 16 trays of ice cubes into the water. Popped one foot in to test the temperature. At this point I thought maybe 16 is too many? After a minute of indecision I decided to just do it. I hopped into an l-sit over the tub and quickly lowered myself down.
After a few choice words that I think my neighbours heard I started my stop watch. The first 30 seconds were the worst and I only managed to last for 2 minutes. I think most recommendations for an ice bath call for 10-20 minutes. My tub is also not big enough for me to completely submerge myself so I had to make due with just my lower body.
I'll definitely be doing this on a regular basis now. Next time I'm going to try for at least 5 minutes. I think it's key to have something to distract yourself with instead of staring at the stopwatch. I also probably don't need 16 trays of ice cubes.
Anyone else jump into a tub of ice on a regular basis?
